If you’re wondering what Pergan means, know that in the language of the Cimbri, Tauç, means Mountains. It’s an artisanal vodka born from the peaks of Lessinia, where water flows into the valleys that characterize this expanse of land northeast of Verona, allowing for the cultivation and growth of grains, fruits, and medicinal herbs. This nearly lost language has been passed down from generation to generation since the early centuries after the year 1000, when this people, after a long journey, arrived from the southern lands of Germany.
Crystal-clear water flows down through narrow gorges that carve the Lessinia plateau, creating a fresh and fertile terrain where varieties of grains and medicinal herbs flourish, products of a rich historical culture. Vodka Pergan is a tribute to this land and the people who inhabit it, guardians of unique culture, traditions, and folklore.
At the first sip, you will be struck by this straightforward and round vodka distilled from the finest grains, whose skilled processing creates a pleasant aromatic sensation reminiscent of the forage that grows on the gentle slopes of the Lessinia valleys, often used as food for grazing animals.
In the filò ritual, a moment of sharing among the Cimbri people held in stables to take advantage of the animals’ warmth, stories were told of fantastical beings born from superstition and folklore, such as anguane, ogres, witches, basilisk, and fairies.
As women spun wool, it was customary to orally pass down this collective memory to the younger ones, narrating tales that often featured the anguane.
It may seem like a simple matter of numbers, but it is said that the Cimbri only counted on their fingers and used cardinal numbers only up to four. Hence, Viere (four) and Hänte (hands) to indicate the number twenty. The four hands of two friends who, after the year twenty-twenty, decided once again to divide themselves in four parts to encapsulate the history and culture of Lessinia in a bottle.
The gentle, sinuous curves of the Lessinia plateau, covered in lush green pastures, are the defining characteristic of this territory. These mountains are traversed by deep valleys carved by flowing water. To the north, these gentle landscapes give way to the higher and harsher peaks of the Prealps, with summits exceeding 2000 meters in altitude.
